5 PHASES OF ONBOARDING
October 27, 2020In keeping your business in the path towards success, it is important to develop strategies that enable you achieve set goals. Goals – long-term or short-term – do not respond to wishful thinking or innate desires, so you must be willing to create actionable plans and see them through.
This begins with understanding the core activities your team must execute to draw closer to specified targets. Activities, generally, are sorted into four groups:
- Urgent and important.
- Urgent but not important.
- Not urgent but important.
- Not urgent and not important.
With strategic planning, you can rank your activities into one of these four, highlighting those that are important and those that are not. You may need to revisit the central elements of your organization – the vision and mission – to determine what exactly is important to you.
Ideally, there should be less investment into unproductive tasks, but the aim is to get the whole team conscious of the productive engagements. Here are some helpful approaches to doing that:
- Create a Learning Environment. Encourage listening and communication within team members. Innovation gets easy when idea-sharing is a fundamental part of your organization. Give individuals and sub-teams platforms for discussion, mentorship, and helpful communication.
- Develop a Recognition System. Top leaders and managers know how much an official recognition can mean to a team member. Appreciate staff publicly and in private. Initiate tidbits of reward systems and watch the effect spread through the organization, thus sustaining a drive for excellence and positive results.
- Reinvent, Reinvest, Review. When you find something that steers your organization in the right direction, you shouldn’t hesitate to commit resources into it. Make your targets time-bound – remember that goals are specific and time-bound. Enlist the help of contractual workers to cater to the mundane stuff, allowing your staff to focus on the important tasks and watch the results skyrocket.
